I was adopted yesterday

On my way home from work yesterday, I saw this adorable little black puppy. She was happily following some person walking along the road, blissfully unaware of the traffic that could end her short little life. She suddenly noticed me, came over, got a little pat, and promptly curled up and went off to sleep with her tiny head resting trustfully on my foot. I was in a quandry. I certainly did not want to leave her there, and thoughts of my mother's displeasure and my dog Lassie's jealousy gave pause to my immediate impulse to take her home. Well...... it was just a 'paws' alright, cos having checked with a little 'petti-kade' nearby that nobody owned her. I picked her up and took her home. My sister was enthusiastic in her welcome, my mom, as expected, expressed her disapproval (and is continuing to do so in no uncertain terms). But right now she is safely (I hope) ensconced in our room with the door shut against Lassie who is probably waiting to munch up the new-comer as a mid-morning (or anytime) snack. There's this large bowl of milk left for her and I'm hoping that she wont somehow manage to drown herself in it!
